Description
The 4000 B Dynamics (B-DYN) 500 series module takes the dynamics processor found in the channel strip of the SL 4000 B console and puts it into 500 Series format. Released in 1976, the 4000 B was the first console ever manufactured by Solid State Logic and was famously used in The Stone Room at Virgins Townhouse Studio (London), Le Studio (Montreal) and Record Plant (LA). It was responsible for countless iconic records, including Phil Collins In the Air Tonight and Peter Gabriels Intruder, both of which feature characterful compression on drums and vocals. The B-DYN module allows users to add heavily coloured, grabby, saturated compression from one of the rarest studio consoles ever made to their production toolkit.
Key Features:
Compressor/Limiter: This is the heart and soul of the B-DYN, with Ratio, Threshold, release and a high pass filter, this can be used to make audio signals sound a lot tighter by reducing the dynamic range, the Limiter portion can help during your mastering stage by making a limit to what volume your track will hit.
Gate/Expander: The B-DYN Gate & Expander section can act as a 20:1 Gate or as a 2:1 Expander when the EXP button is pressed.Great for cutting unwanted signals, for example cable noise when using distortion on an audio source. Or, use the expander to boost certain sounds, like a breath in between words, if you feel that would improve the song.
De-Ess (DS) Mode: When the Compressor ratio and release controls are set to DS. The B-DYN is optimised for reducing sibilance (De-Essing) a signal. This is great to help control sibilance which can be extremely annoying on recordings.
