Description
“Quite aside from carrying the signature of one of the most respected session guitarists in history, these instruments are from the same stable as the Marcus Miller basses, whose sound-per-pound quality has made them something of a phenomenon in the four-string world.” – guitar.com
Following up on thesuperb bass collaboration with Marcus Miller, Sire have partnered with jazz fusion legend Larry Carlton to bring you their take on the iconic S-style: the S7 Vintage. Sire instruments boast high-end specs at tempting prices – and its business as usual with the S7, which features a roasted maple neck, a rolled edge fretboard and a traditional single coilpickup setsuited to Larry Carlton’s tonal preferences.
Construction
The S7 Vintage blends modern design construction with familiar retrostyle. It’s made of a premium alder body wood andbolt-on roasted hard maple neck. Sire are masters of the roasting technique, otherwise known as baking, which rids the wood of imperfections and makes it incredibly resilient over years of use.
On top is a matching 9.5 inch radius roasted maple fretboard embedded with medium jumbo frets, giving the S7 Vintage a smooth contemporary playing feel. Add in the gloriously silky rolled fretboard edges and you’ve got a guitar that plays like it should be four times the price.
“The satin neck finish feels great, the rolled fretboard edges really do make a difference, and the vibrato system has been well set up with a natural response and decent tuning stability.” – guitar.com
Hardware on the S7 Vintage is of an incredibly high standard. The premium locking tuners keep the guitar as precise as can be, even when using the old school S7V tremolo bridge to its fullest extent.
Sound
Sire’s in-house-made Super-V single coilpickup sets meets Larry Carlton’s high sonic standards of crisp character and sparkle. You simply can’t go wrong with three single coils in an S-type guitar. They’re extremely flexible for all styles of clean tones and drive, evenspitting out some alnico V high output for more extreme uses. Use the five-way selector to get nuancedvariations of the legendary dynamic tone.
